across the universe
Can we think of personal cartography as one that traces our displacements or movements? Maybe we have moved from one country to another, or from our childhood neighborhood to a new one. Maybe our cartography will reveal how our ideas about a context have been transformed through this journey, how far or near are our loved ones, or how we envision a common future.
Departing on exercises influenced by Glorias Anzaldua’s “autohistoria” (as a situated practiced that addresses self-knowledge, but also self-ignorance), this workshop aims to reflect on a personal history, in order to create a visual narrative of our relocations.
The workshop can be set in a network of schools, in or near to Grønland, that host a “Welcoming Class”, an initial class where immigrant children can learn Norwegian. An important part of the process of making a cartography would be displaying them and joining their families together.
The workshop can also be prepared for neighbors of different ages.
This workshop was made in collaboration with the artist collective Tenthaus (Oslo).
